The Song of Caroline and Maud

The Song of Caroline and Maud

When Caroline and Maud arrive at Babbinsfield Hall, after spending forty years in India they are faced with greatly reduced circumstances. They have no money or prospects; they cannot even have a cup of tea when they arrive. To make things worse, they are confronted with Tibbs, a grumpy old butler. He is retired and refuses to work, but insists on staying in his quarters. Caroline has always been the plain sister, but Maud is more fun loving and less worried about the Babbinsfield good name. With the help of Mickie, a friendly, kindly, and very camp man who becomes their lodger, a dishy young man who looks after the woodland, and Lizzie, a feisty but elderly lady, they embark on an ambitious task of organising a wedding party in a marquee in the grounds. Sally, her fiancé and her father come to the house to confirm the details. To Sally’s horror, her father insists on her having a nice respectable hen party in the wedding marquee instead of going to Magaluf with her mates. Dad mistakenly thinks his daughter is innocent and temperate, and he charges Caroline and Maud, to preserve this. Rupert, joins forces with Mickie to keep the hen party on the straight and narrow, but this is not easy as Sally keeps running into the house to make more demands, such as a stripper. Caroline and Maud are extremely out of touch with the modern world, but they are happy to work very hard to try and make ends meet.
